Crowfield’s history is one of an agrarian society and so it is not surprising that the first owner of land that would become Crowfield Plantation was a farmer, John Berringer. John received the 1,800 acres of land as part of the King of England’s land grant program designed to encourage Barbadians to settle in the territory.

Today, Crowfield Plantation is a 2,800 acre Westvaco Corporation development started in 1981. The Plantation offers 27 subdivisions with a total of more than 3,200 properties. At the center of the development is a gorgeous 78 acre lake which is available for boating (no gas engines) and fishing. Amenities in Crowfield consist of various parks, four tennis courts and 16 miles of leisure trails. In addition there are four swimming pools and a recreational vehicle storage facility for boats, campers, motor homes and utility trailers. There is an additional fee assessed if you choose to rent one of the RV Storage Lots ( availability varies ).

For the golfers out there, The Crowfield Golf & Country Club, located in The Hamlets subdivision is available, but not part of the Homeowner’s Association.

Crowfield Plantation is located in Berkeley County; elementary and middle school children living in The Hamlets attend College Park Schools. Children in all other subdivisions attend Westview Elementary & Middle Schools. All high school children regardless of subdivision attend Stratford High School.
