Park Circle, located in North Charleston within the I-526 / I-26 corridor was originally composed of plantations which were eventually subdivided. Today the area is the focus of a revitalization project and evidence of the transformation is widespread. From the establishment of new shops and eateries in the Olde Village to the eco-friendly LEED certified building projects change is afoot.
Oak Terrace Preserve, formerly Century Oaks, is now home to the first phase of 374 new environmentally friendly North Charleston SC homes. Featured builders in this eco-friendly community include: Centex, Brentwood Homes, and The Verdi Company to name just a few. Mixson Avenue, formerly John C. Calhoun Homes, is the new I’On Group “LEED” certified community which will eventually offer a total of 950 smart, green homes as well as shops, courtyards and parks. Designed to be a sustainable walking neighborhood, please visit www.Mixson.com for details. Horizon Village, formerly North Park Village, has nearly finished its 484 housing units.
The old Garco plant near Olde North Charleston is scheduled to be transformed into shops, residences and offices, and the Noisette Co. plans to redevelop 350 acres of the old Navy base into water basins, businesses and thousands of housing units. Based on the conceptual plan Garco Park will be a 40 acres of neighborhood retail, commercial offices, residential loft condos, and light industrial spaces
Also, Clemson University's planned Restoration Institute around the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley promises to bring thousands of jobs to the former Navy base, further transforming the area that extends from Filbin Creek to Reynolds Avenue.
