For the sixteenth consecutive year, readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine honored Charleston as a Top 10 travel destination in the U.S. Charleston was honored with a No. 2 slot - topped only by San Francisco. Last year, Charleston SC ranked No. 3 in the poll behind San Francisco and New York City. This year, New York takes the No. 3 slot, right behind the Holy City.

The exquisite wrought iron work of Mr. Philip Simmons now the most celebrated of Charleston ironworkers can be seen on fences, iron gates, window grills for all to admire. Climate

Autumn is refreshing with cool breezes, mild temperatures and brilliant blue skies. Winters are brief with average January highs at 58° and lows at 38°. Snowfall is extremely rare.

Festivals / Events

There are many annual events to experience year round.

Winter brings the Low Country Oyster Festival and in February the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition is an enjoyable event for the entire family. There is no better way to enjoy Charleston’s magnificent spring than to attend the Annual Festival of Houses and Gardens, featuring some of Charleston's finest historic estates. For seventeen days in May and June, Charleston SC hosts the world’s most comprehensive celebration of the arts, Spoleto Festival USA, and its companion festival, Piccolo Spoleto. Fall highlights include the Candlelight Tour of Houses and Gardens, the African-American and Caribbean MOJA Arts Festival, and Worldfest-Charleston International Film Festival. Celebrate a southern Christmas in Charleston with the Holiday Festival of Lights, the Annual Christmas Parade of Boats, and many other holiday activities and festivals.
